How much does it cost to register a company in Australia?
The ASIC government fee for a proprietary limited company is $636 (from 1 July 2026, indexed annually). Our service fee is a flat $60, making the total $696 — among the cheapest and simplest company registrations in Australia.
How long does it take to register a company online?
Most companies are registered within 5 to 25 minutes of submission. Your ACN, certificate and all documents appear in your online account as soon as ASIC confirms registration.
Can I register an SMSF trustee company?
Yes. We register special purpose SMSF trustee companies with a constitution tailored to superannuation trustee duties, which qualifies you for the reduced ASIC annual review fee.
Are there any subscriptions or hidden fees?
No. Registering your company is a one-off $60 plus the $636 ASIC fee, with no card surcharge and nothing that turns into a subscription. Ongoing help, like our $102/yr ASIC agent service or Virtual CFO, is optional and only starts if you choose it.
Do I need an ABN as well as an ACN?
An ACN is issued automatically when your company registers. If your company will trade, you'll also want an ABN (and possibly GST and TFN registration), included in our Premium package, or you can register them separately later.
What do I need before I start?
Your proposed company name, the full name, date of birth, place of birth and residential address of each director and shareholder, and a registered office address in Australia. Directors also need a Director ID from the ABRS (free).
Who can use Cheap Company Setup?
Direct customers as well as accountants, financial advisers, mortgage brokers and lawyers registering on behalf of clients. We're an ASIC registered agent (36194) and accredited software provider (2083).
Pricing, fees and what's included
What exactly am I paying for — can you break down the $696?
Your $696 is made up of two parts: the $636 ASIC government registration fee, which is set by the regulator and passed straight through, plus our flat $60 service fee. For that $60 we run your company name check, prepare your company constitution, prepare all consents and member registers, and lodge your application electronically with ASIC as a registered agent. There are no other charges — the constitution and full document pack are included.
Is the $60 service fee the same for every customer?
Yes. We charge one flat $60 service fee for a standard proprietary limited company, no matter who you are or how you found us. There are no tiered upsells needed to complete a basic registration. If you want extras like ABN, TFN and GST registration, a logo and a business bank account, our optional Premium bundle covers those in one price.
Are there any subscriptions, lock-in contracts or renewal fees from you?
No. Company registration is a one-off payment. We never place you on a subscription or a lock-in contract. The only ongoing cost is ASIC's annual review fee, which ASIC charges the company directly each year — we do not add anything on top of it.
Getting your company and documents
How do I receive my documents after I pay?
As soon as your payment clears, your order is lodged with ASIC. When ASIC confirms registration your ACN and all documents appear in your secure online account, usually within minutes. You can download your ASIC certificate of registration, company constitution, company register, share certificates and tax invoice at any time.
What happens if my chosen company name is rejected?
We screen your name against ASIC's restricted words and formatting rules before you lodge, which prevents most rejections. In the rare case ASIC rejects a name after lodgement, we help you choose an acceptable name and re-lodge — we do not charge a second service fee to do this.
Can I be the only director and the only shareholder?
Yes. One person can be the sole director and sole shareholder of an Australian proprietary limited company. Our form supports sole-director companies as well as companies with multiple directors, shareholders and share classes.
Can I register an Australian company if I live overseas?
You can be involved from overseas, but Australian law requires a proprietary limited company to have at least one director who ordinarily resides in Australia. As long as one director meets that residency test, the other directors and shareholders can be located anywhere.
Our services and who we help
What types of companies can you register?
We register standard proprietary limited (Pty Ltd) companies limited by shares, and special purpose SMSF trustee companies with a constitution written to meet superannuation fund requirements. We work with everyday founders and small business owners as well as accountants, financial advisers and SMSF administrators registering companies for their clients.
Do you also handle ABN, TFN and GST registration?
Yes. A basic registration gives you the company, ACN and all documents. Our optional Premium bundle adds ABN, TFN and GST registration, a free logo and help opening a business bank account, so you can start trading straight away.
Can accountants and advisers register companies for their clients?
Yes. Professionals use us to register companies on behalf of clients and can track registrations and download documents through a client dashboard. We are an ASIC registered agent, so lodgements are made under our agent number on your behalf.
Security, privacy and Australian data hosting
Are your servers and my data kept in Australia?
Yes. Our website and the systems that hold your registration data run on Australian-based servers, so your information stays onshore under Australian privacy law. We do not offshore your personal details.
How is my personal information protected?
All traffic to our site is encrypted with SSL, and your documents sit in a password-protected online account rather than being emailed back and forth. We collect only the information ASIC requires to register your company, lodge it directly as an ASIC registered agent, and handle it in line with our privacy policy.
What is your refund policy?
Registrations are lodged electronically with ASIC in real time, and the $636 ASIC government fee cannot be refunded once your company is registered. If a problem arises before lodgement, contact us and we will make it right. Full details are set out in our Terms and Conditions.
Where we operate
Which states and territories can you register companies in?
We register companies across all of Australia — New South Wales, Victoria, Queensland, Western Australia, South Australia, Tasmania, the Australian Capital Territory and the Northern Territory. An Australian company has a single national ACN and can trade in every state and territory.
